Obidient Movement Slams Court Ruling on NDC, Accuses APC of Judicial Manipulation

The Obidient Movement has condemned the recent court ruling ordering the deregistration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) as a political party, accusing the All Progressives Congress (APC) of using judicial manipulation to advance partisan interests and weaken opposition platforms ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement, the movement described the latest judicial pronouncements as contradictory, arguing that they have reinforced public concerns about the courts’ partiality. It maintained that the NDC had acted in compliance with a valid and subsisting court order, incurring substantial expenditure in preparation for the elections.
The Obidient Movement noted that the NDC acquired legitimate legal expectations that cannot be arbitrarily defeated by the very court whose judgment it obeyed, stressing that the sudden, contradictory legal judgments flowing from courts increasingly perceived as loyal to the APC-led government represent a direct assault on democratic pluralism.
It also alleged that attempts to deploy state infrastructure and judicial technicalities to deregister or suppress viable opposition parties were evident.
“The ruling elite is terrified of the massive coalition building under the NDC banner, and they are actively attempting to shut down the democratic space before the first ballot is cast in 2027,” the group said.
The movement warned that what it described as manipulated judicial actions would only heighten tensions in the country, emphasising that Nigeria belongs to all its citizens and not to a singular political cabal.
It argued that the political landscape cannot be forcefully cleared to create a monolithic one-party state, particularly one it claimed is determined to destroy the country.
Calling the attention of the Presidency to the issue, the Obidient Movement explained that only Nigerians have the right to choose their leaders. It warned that if the government refuses to provide a level playing field and seeks to prevent Nigerians from peacefully removing it through the ballot box, it would be laying the groundwork for violent unrest.
The movement asserted that when peaceful and democratic avenues for change are systematically choked off, a suffering and hungry populace may be driven to desperate actions.
It reiterated its commitment to constitutional democracy, the rule of law and the sovereign right of Nigerians to freely choose their leaders, cautioning that should there be any coordinated attempt to undermine those rights or impose a de facto one-party state, it would mobilise millions of Nigerians through every lawful and constitutional means available to resist such actions.
The movement further stated that Nigerians have rejected what it described as the perpetual suffering inflicted by the APC administration, adding that the alleged attempt by the President to eliminate the only viable opposition party through a remote-controlled judiciary was “the last kick of a dying horse.”
It expressed confidence that Nigerians remain determined to elect Peter Obi as the next President and Commander-in-Chief of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, insisting that no government, regardless of how despotic, can permanently suppress the democratic aspirations of its people.
The group vowed to resist every attempt to frustrate what it described as the hopes and aspirations of millions of Nigerians seeking a Peter Obi presidency.
It equally urged members of the movement, volunteers and partners nationwide, including those participating in its ongoing mobilisation drives, to remain calm, law-abiding and focused.
“Keep your eyes on the ball. Do not panic, and do not lose focus. We are unstoppable, our structures are resilient, and we are going into 2027 to win,” the movement stated.
The group expressed confidence that Nigeria would be free from what it described as the shackles of the APC, reiterating that a new Nigeria would emerge in 2027.
