NSCDC Boosts Security Measures for Critical Assets in Anambra

The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced improved security operations towards protecting critical assets and infrastructure of the government at all levels.

The State Commandant of the Command, Comdt. Maku Olatunde disclosed this on Thursday during a meeting with Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, Tactical Commanders and Heads of Formation in the Command, stressing the need to forestall any form of vandalism.

This is according to a statement released by SC Okadigbo Edwin, Head, Media and Tactical Operations of the Command.

In his address, Olatunde maintained that the Command would stand firm in the discharge of its statutory mandate in ensuring that critical assets of government including electrical installations, manhole covers, streetlights, telecommunication cables, bridge sleepers, among others are not destroyed.

“I would like to issue a stern warning to those responsible for vandalizing government critical infrastructure: such actions constitute a serious criminal offense. I urge them to cease these destructive activities immediately, as we are closely monitoring the situation and will not tolerate this behaviour,” he said.

The Commandant warned that a manhunt has been declared by the Corps in the state to apprehend vandals of Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI), emphasising that any criminal act threatening public peace and security will be dealt with decisively.

He charged the Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to remain resolute and redouble efforts towards surmounting the scourge of vandalism and theft of public property in Anambra State by criminals disguising as scavengers or street corner iron mongers, popularly known as “iron condemned”.

He further expressed gratitude to the public for their support and cooperation in providing valuable information, and urged parents to closely monitor their children to prevent them from engaging in criminal activities.
