Nigeria Customs, NIPR Partner to Enhance Public Relations Practice

The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) and the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter, have entered into a partnership geared towards enhancing professionalism, upholding ethical standards, and improving strategic communication within public relations practice.

This agreement was reached during a courtesy visit by the National Public Relations Officer (NPRO) of the NCS, Assistant Comptroller of Customs Abdullahi Maiwada, to the Secretariat of the NIPR FCT Chapter in Abuja on Friday.

Assistant Comptroller Maiwada was accompanied by a delegation of officers from the Public Relations Unit of the Service.

Speaking during their engagement, he explained that the visit was intended to strengthen institutional partnership and foster the exchange of knowledge between the NCS and the professional body for public relations in Nigeria.

“We believe that excellence and professionalism should be the hallmark of our practice of Public Relations in the Nigeria Customs Service and beyond,” Maiwada said.

He emphasised that the PR Unit under his leadership is driven by youthful energy, dedication, and the support of the Comptroller-General of Customs, CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi.

In response, the Chairman of the NIPR FCT Chapter, Mr. Stanley Ogadigo, who received the delegation, commended the NCS for its proactive communication efforts, especially under the leadership of Comptroller Adeniyi.

“We’re glad that the Comptroller-General of Customs has not disappointed us. He’s doing a great job and remains a shining example,” Ogadigo remarked.

He assured the NIPR’s full support in advancing initiatives that will enhance public relations practice within the public sector.

Ogadigo also outlined the institute’s plans to collaborate with the Service in areas such as capacity building, corporate social responsibility, and joint public advocacy campaigns.

Discussions between both parties focused on possible training programmes, professional development opportunities, and strategies for adapting government communication to the rapidly changing media landscape.

They reaffirmed their commitment to fostering continuous learning and strengthening the credibility of government institutions through ethical and strategic public relations.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with the NCS and the NIPR FCT Chapter expressing their readiness to pursue mutually beneficial initiatives aimed at improving public sector communication across the country.
