The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of nine members of an armed robbery syndicate operating within Kano and Kaduna States, and the recovery of arms, ammunition, and other dangerous weapons.

The arrested suspects are Abubakar Aminu (22), Aliyu Aliyu (23), Abubakar Usman (22), Sulaiman Sani (20), Yusuf Yusuf (17), Abdulrahman Aliyu (23), Salisu Hussaini (17), Sulaiman Abdullahi (20), and Abdulmutallib Sa’ad (24).

The Kano Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, disclosed this during a press briefing on Monday, noting that the suspects were apprehended following coordinated intelligence and tactical operations.

“Acting in line with the directives of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, PhD, NPM, charging all Commands and Formations to dominate the public space, and aggressively and strategically tackle all forms of criminal activities; today, I am pleased to announce to you the successful arrest of 9 suspects involved in a series of armed robbery operations in Kano State.

“The arrest was triggered by a report of an armed robbery incident that occurred on October 8, 2025, at about 2 a.m., at a residence in Unguwar Wambai, Dorayi Babba Quarters, Kano. The robbers, armed with rifles, made away with a Toyota Yaris motor vehicle, foreign and local currencies amounting to ₦3,700,000, three mobile phones, and other valuables,” CP Bakori stated.

He revealed that the suspects brutally assaulted the complainant’s wife during the incident, using a diamond object to remove one of her teeth, thereby causing her grevious harm.

“Police officers attached to Dorayi Divisional Headquarters responded and arrested one suspect. On my instruction, the Command’s Special Intervention Squad (SIS) moved in and round up other eight suspects at different locations within Kano and Kaduna States.

“The suspects confessed to being involved in several armed robbery operations in Abuja, Kaduna, and Kano State, including the recent armed robbery at Unguwar Jakada, Dorayi Quarters, Kano State,” the Police Commissioner said.

He highlighted the recovered exhibits during the investigation, including one double-barrel gun with serial number 273720, containing eighteen rounds of live cartridges, one English Falcon pistol with serial number RFJA 170521867, one scrapped Phoenix pistol, and one iron cutter.

Other recovered items are two cutlasses, four sharp knives, three torch lights, one operational vehicle Toyota Corolla LE with registration number ADK 787 EV (red in colour), and two mobile phones.

Bakori affirmed that all the suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations, revealing that the Command is working to recover additional exhibits linked to the crimes.

He attributed the success of the operation to the Command’s community-based crime fighting model, “Operation Kukan Kura”, which according to him, has contributed significantly to the reduction of crime across the state.

“We have seen a geometric reduction in all forms of crimes. Mobile phone snatching and robbery are becoming things of the past .Thuggery activities (Fadan Daba) being crippled.”

The Police Commissioner commended the officers involved in the operation for their bravery, professionalism, and dedication to duty, acknowledging that their efforts led to the significant breakthrough.

He also urged them to continue working tirelessly to ensure the safety and security of Kano residents.

He further expressed gratitude to members of the public for providing valuable information that led to this achievement, encouraging them to continue supporting the Command with information that will aid its efforts in combating crime and ensuring the safety of lives and property in the state.
