I’ll Abolish JAMB, Scrap NYSC If Elected President, Says Sowore
The presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore, has said that he would abolish the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB)’s Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) if elected President of Nigeria in the 2027 election.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday, Sowore also disclosed that he would scrap the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
“When I become President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, JAMB will be abolished,” he wrote.
Sowore argued that admission into tertiary institutions should be determined by the institutions themselves under a transparent, merit-based system rather than by another layer of bureaucracy.
“The National Youth Service Corps, in its current form, will be scrapped,” he stated, adding that his administration would establish a two-year voluntary National Job Corps to guarantee participants meaningful employment, practical skills, entrepreneurship support, and pathways to permanent careers.
He further asserted that Nigeria’s young people do not need more compulsory schemes; rather, they need opportunities, jobs, skills, and the freedom to choose their future.
