Eid-el-Kabir: MWUN PG Urges Tolerance, Unity, Decries Hardship

The President-General of the Maritime Workers’ Union of Nigeria (MWUN), Comrade Francis Bunu has called on Muslims across Nigeria and the world to uphold the virtues of tolerance, peace and unity as they celebrate this year’s Eid Mubarak.
Bunu commended Nigerians, particularly Muslims, for their resilience, love and patience despite the prevailing economic difficulties, violent crimes and insecurity ravaging parts of the country, especially in the northern region.
He made this known in a statement signed by the union’s Head of Media, Comrade John Ikemefuna, in which he expressed deep concern over the suffering of ordinary Nigerians amid the current economic realities.
Describing the situation in the country as painful and challenging, Bunu noted that many Nigerians were passing through difficult times but stressed that Muslims had continued to place their trust in Allah, whom he described as merciful and benevolent.
The labour activist also acknowledged the efforts of the administration of President Bola Tinubu towards repositioning the country, tackling insecurity and addressing inflation, saying the Federal Government appeared committed to restoring peace and stability in troubled parts of Nigeria.
He expressed hope that the spirit of Eid Mubarak would usher in the much-desired peace, unity and positive transformation across the country.
Bunu further appealed to governments at all levels to urgently address the plight of Nigerians by improving their living conditions and reducing the economic burden on citizens, noting that the standard of living of the average Nigerian had fallen below acceptable levels.
He also urged Nigerians to continue to live peacefully with one another irrespective of ethnic or religious differences, adding that love, unity and mutual understanding remained essential to national development.
The MWUN President-General wished Muslims and all Nigerians a peaceful and joyous Sallah celebration.
