Police Recover Firearm, Vandalised NTA Cables, Arrest Three Suspects in Oyo

The Oyo State Police Command has announced the recovery of a firearm, vandalised cables belonging to the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), and other suspected stolen items, as well as the arrest of three suspects linked to the offences.
The arrested suspects are Suhaib Abdulwahab, 30; Kabiril Mustapha, 25; and Abdullah Abdullah, 25, all from Akunlemu area of the state.
This was disclosed in a statement signed by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, on Tuesday.
Olayinka stated that the incident followed a report received by the Police from one Akanni Hamsat, a 42-year-old resident of Bara Apaara, who reported the theft of his welding machine from his shop.
He explained that through his personal investigation, the stolen machine was traced to a scrap shop within the area.
According to him, police operatives from the Durbar Division, acting on credible intelligence, promptly proceeded to the location, where they arrested Abdulwahab, the owner of the scrap shop.
Olayinka revealed that a search conducted at the premises led to the recovery of a locally fabricated pistol, armoured cables belonging to NTA Oyo, which had earlier been reported vandalised on May 21, 2026, as well as several car air-conditioning components suspected to be stolen.
He noted that further investigation and the arrest of the scrap shop owner led to the apprehension of Mustapha and Abdullah, who are believed to be connected to the crimes.
He added that the recovered exhibits have been taken into police custody, while investigations are ongoing to determine the full extent of the suspects’ involvement and to identify other possible accomplices.
The Command affirmed that the suspects are cooperating with investigators as inquiries progress.
It reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property and urged members of the public to continue supporting the Police by providing timely, credible, and actionable information that will assist in preventing and combating crime across the state.
The Command also reassured residents that there is no cause for alarm, adding that it remains vigilant and is taking all necessary measures to ensure the safety and security of the public.
