Pro bono Lawyers Secure Release of 12 Arrested Protesters in Lagos

A team of pro bono lawyers under the auspices of “Lawyers for Rule of Law and Human Rights” on Friday secured the freedom of 12 arrested protesters from the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID), Panti, Lagos.

According to one of the lawyers, Inibehe Effiong, most of the protesters were grabbed by thugs at the Lekki Toll Gate and other parts of the state and handed over to the police.

They include Labe Benedict, Nura Umar, Yaro Gazama, Joseph Jeremiah, Osinachi Udoeze and Ayodele Ajayi.

Others are Godwin Moloku, Adelokun Wasiu, Precious Alfred, Yahaya Mohammed, Otika Victor and Ndukwe Ogbonnaya.

“We met with the Commissioner of Police earlier today at the Gani Fawehinmi Freedom Park and complained about the ongoing arbitrary arrest of protesters in Lagos.

“The CP then directed us to Panti where the protesters were detained and instructed the DCP, Panti to release them,” Effiong disclosed on X.

He added: “The protesters were accordingly released to me and my colleagues. We are also making efforts to help detained protesters in other States and the FCT. History will vindicate the just.”
