Police, Task Force Recover 67 Rustled Cows in Kano

Operatives of the Kano State Police Command, in partnership with the Military Joint Task Force, have recovered 67 rustled cows, a donkey, and a sheep during an operation in the Gwarzo Local Government Area of the state.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, made this known in a statement on Friday.

According to Kiyawa, at about 18:15hrs on May 6, 2026, the Command received credible intelligence that suspected cattle rustlers had rustled livestock from several villages around Gwarzo and neighboring areas.

Consequently, a combined team of police operatives from the Gwarzo Police Division and Military JTF personnel were immediately mobilised and moved to the affected areas.

“On sighting the security team, the suspects engaged them in a gun duel. Due to the superior firepower and tactical superiority of the joint team, the criminals were overpowered and forced to abandon the rustled livestock and flee outside the state,” Kiyawa said.

He disclosed that the recovered livestock were taken into safe custody at the Gwarzo Division and, after proper identification and verification, were formally released to their rightful owners on May 7 through the respective District Heads, under the supervision of the Local Government Chairman.

The spokesperson added that intensified manhunt and intelligence-led operations are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing suspects, while monitoring continues in the affected communities to prevent a recurrence.

Commenting on the successful operation, the Kano Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the gallantry and professionalism displayed by the operatives and the synergy with the Military JTF.

CP Bakori reiterated the Command’s commitment to rid the state of criminal elements threatening the peace and livelihood of rural communities.

He also urged residents, especially in rural areas, to continue cooperating with the police by providing timely and credible information that can aid proactive policing and crime prevention.

The Commissioner reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives, property, and the agricultural economy of the state.

He further encouraged residents to report suspicious activities through 08032419754, 08123821575, or 09029292926, or to visit the nearest police station.
