Every Sector Must Deliver Efficiently for Nigeria to Attain Full Economic Potential – NIWA Boss

Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), Mr. Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji has said that all sectors of Nigeria’s economy must deliver efficient and effective service to achieve full economic potential.

Mr. Oyebamiji made the disclosure on Monday, October 30 while delivering an inaugural speech at NIWA’s headquarters in Lokoja, Kogi State.

In his remarks, he thanked President Bola Tinubu for giving him a chance to serve the Nigerian people.

“I appreciate His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the opportunity afforded me to serve at this level. I am equally grateful to the Honourable Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, HE Adegboyega Oyetola, for his leadership style at the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy. He is a great leader, and I can assure Nigerians that he will not let them down.”

Oyebamiji also expressed gratitude to the public for their show of support since his appointment as the MD/CEO of NIWA.

“Similarly, let me specially appreciate everyone for your love and best wishes since my appointment was announced. I am indeed very grateful to the members of staff of this agency for your warm reception. I appreciate our APC party leaders and associates from Osun State as well as my brothers, sisters, and friends from Ikire.

“My friends from every part of the country are also here today to felicitate with me; I thank you all sincerely. A lot of people arrived Lokoja last night, while others came in today. I appreciate the sacrifice you made to be here and will not take it for granted,” he stated.

Speaking further at the inaugural address, Oyebamiji revealed that he experienced competition earlier in his professional career and also called for the support of the masses in achieving success.

His words: “My life has been marked by discipline and accountability. I was thrown into a very competitive sector early in my career. The banking sector does not support mediocrity in any form; your performance determines your placement and benefits.

“I had the uncommon privilege to learn and practice Classical Banking under the Doyens of the industry in the marine sector among others. NIWA can be performance-driven with your support.. Expectedly, these two values will be my guiding principles as a servant in this position.”

The native of Osun State charged his counterparts on the need to tackle Nigeria’s problems with new initiatives, stressing that things must be done differently.

“Dear colleagues, you will agree with me that, as Nigerians, we need to approach our national challenges with a renewed resolve. We just must begin to do things differently if we hope to achieve different results. I therefore bring to you a campaign of renewed hope that things can be better and that things, indeed, will get better with our combined efforts.”

Commenting on what to expect under his leadership, the former Commissioner for Information in Osun State maintained that for Nigeria to attain full economic potential, every sector must deliver efficient and effective service.

“As an agency, our mission is clear, and our objectives are achievable. For Nigeria to attain her full economic potential, all sectors, including the inland waterways, must be primed to support efficient and effective service delivery. I therefore plead for your cooperation, dedication, and doggedness as we approach the tasks before us. Like Mr. President said days ago, let us delete every line of division in our daily activities. It is time for all hands to be on deck. We cannot afford to fail, and we will not fail.

“In the coming days, we shall unveil our programmes and activities, in line with Mr. President’s charge and the mandate of the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy.”

Oyebamiji stressed that he is an advocate of egalitarianism, which encourages equal rights for every individual.

“I am an advocate of an open door policy where everyone matters. As the captain of this ship, I shall always make myself available to everyone. I look forward to receiving your suggestions, criticisms, and commendations (when we deserve them).”

While reiterating his gratitude, he asked for the support and prayers of the general public in order to achieve success.

Recall that President Bola Tinubu appointed Mr. Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji as Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Inland Waterways Authority a week ago.
