Ghana Sack Coach Hughton After Disappointing Group Stage Outing at AFCON

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has sacked the manager of its senior national team, Chris Hughton.

The GFA dismissed Hughton following a poor run of form at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage games.

Ghana in group B of the ongoing tournament played a two-all draw with Mozambique – and had a similar result against Egypt.

They lost to Cape Verde in 2-1 result in their final group game – thus amassed two points, conceded 6 goals and scored 5.

Consequently, the Black Stars are out of the tournament.

“The Ghana Football Association wishes to announce that Chris Hughton has been relieved of his duties as head coach of the senior National team with immediate effect.

“The Executive Council has also taken a decision to dissolve the technical team of the Black Stars. The Ghana Football Association will in the coming days provide a roadmap on the future direction of the Black Stars,” the football governing body in Ghana said in a statement in the early hours of Wednesday.

Hughton’s time at the Ghanaian team set up started off as a technical advisor during their World Cup qualifiers in March 2022 and was later appointed as coach in February 2023 after the resignation of Otto Addo.
