Manchester United have sacked Erik ten Hag following their poor run of form at the start of the 2024/2025 season.
United suffered a 2-1 loss to West Ham United at the London Stadium on Sunday, their fourth Premier League defeat this season, having lost to Tottenham Hotspur, Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively.
The club confirmed that Ten Hag has left his role as the manager of the team in a statement issued on Monday.
“Erik ten Hag has left his role as Manchester United men’s first-team manager. Erik was appointed in April 2022 and led the club to two domestic trophies, winning the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024.
“We are grateful to Erik for everything he has done during his time with us and wish him well for the future,” the club stated.
It also disclosed that Ruud van Nistelrooy will take over as the interim manager of the team, until a new gaffer is appointed.
“Ruud van Nistelrooy will take charge of the team as interim head coach, supported by the current coaching team, whilst a permanent head coach is recruited.”
The Red Devils currently sits 14th on the Premier League standings with 11 points after 9 games.
They have also amassed just 3 points in 3 games in the UEFA Europa League, and are placed 21st on the log.
