NDLEA Arrests Three Persons With Disabilities Over Drug Trafficking in Anambra, Kwara

Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested three Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) for drug trafficking in Anambra and Kwara States.

According to a statement made available to ThelensNG on Sunday by the NDLEA Director of Media and Advocacy, Femi Babafemi, the apprehended PWDs are Romanus Nwabara, Amos Kenneth, and Usman Salisu.

Babafemi disclosed that Nwabara, 60, was traced to Akpaka Forest in Onitsha following credible intelligence received on May 6, 2026. He was found in possession of 250 grams of skunk packaged in retail sachets.

In a separate raid carried out in the Ogbunike area of Anambra State on May 7, NDLEA officers arrested Kenneth, 25, with 160.3 grams of Tramadol 225mg and 100mg, 80 pills of Diazepam, 38.23 grams of Exol-5, and 176.93 grams of skunk.

Similarly, NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Bode Saadu area of Kwara State on May 8 intercepted a commercial vehicle. During a search of the vehicle, one of the passengers, Salisu, was found with 6.3 kilograms of skunk concealed in a brown school bag.

Operatives of the NDLEA Special Operations Unit on the same day raided a mansion in Lekki, Lagos, used as a stash house, where 4,000 parcels of Loud, a strong strain of imported cannabis, weighing 2,326 kilograms and valued at ₦5,815,000,000 were recovered.

Other items recovered from the house, located at 36 African Lane, Lekki Phase 1, included two Mercedes-Benz buses and various designer sachets used for packaging the illicit substance for retail distribution.

In Nasarawa State, Emmanuel Osita Okeke, 38, was arrested with 129 kilograms of skunk in the Nyanya-Karu area on May 4. NDLEA operatives on patrol along the Okene-Lokoja Highway in Kogi State also intercepted a white commuter J5 bus travelling to Abuja on May 8. A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of 76 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 766 kilograms and the arrest of three suspects — Mathew Omohove, Ebuka Desmond, and Babangida Musa.

NDLEA officers equally raided a makeshift skuchies production facility in the Ijora-Badia area of Lagos on May 6, where two suspects — Bose Jamiu and Gbenga Gege were arrested.

The duo were caught cooking cannabis and mixing it with other illicit substances. A total of 270 litres of already-produced skuchies and 106 grams of Tramadol 225mg were recovered from them.

In the same vein, the Agency’s Commands and formations across the country continued their War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) sensitisation activities in schools, worship centres, workplaces, and communities during the past week.

The activities included WADA enlightenment lectures for students and staff of Ta’al Model Secondary School, Lafia, Nasarawa State; Federal College of Education, Ilawe-Ekiti; traditional rulers in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State; and Adventist Secondary Technical College, Owerrinta, Isialangwa LGA of Abia State.

Others included Golden Anchor Secondary School, Shomolu, Lagos; Mary Hanney Secondary School, Oron, Akwa Ibom State; Mallam Ibrahim Islamiyya School, Rano, Kano State; and Isemi-Ile Grammar School, Isemi-Ile, Kajola LGA of Oyo State.

Commenting on the arrests and seizures, the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (rtd), commended officers of the SOU, Anambra, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Lagos Commands for their professionalism and commitment.

Marwa praised their efforts in reducing drug supply while sustaining WADA sensitisation activities, and charged them, along with their counterparts across the country, to maintain the current momentum.
